Your finished piece is suitable for using as a scarf, using as a belt, putting on your head, framing and hanging on the wall or decorating a tabletop. Your finished piece will need to cure and be steam set post class and will be mailed to you approximately 1 week after attending the class. You will be utilizing silk dyes and resists and will be provided with a vocabulary and supply resource list in this class. All materials & mailing costs to mail you your finished piece (via USPS First Class) are provided in the cost of the class.
Please bring photos/drawings of ideas you might want to use in your scarf. Please wear appropriate clothing (black hides any spills best). Canvas aprons will be provided (1 size fits all) as well as latex plastic gloves, but the silk dyes can dye clothing & hands. We will be working in a renovated barn. It is heated. If you are sensitive to weather you may want to bring a sweatshirt/jacket. There is plenty of parking available. The studio is located on a farm with horses: Spook is a blue eyed paint horse and we have 2 miniature horses named Bernie and Breyer that are in pastures on the property and a cat named Picasso (Pico) that roams everywhere. We live in the countryside near the Pillchuck Tree Farm with extensive walk/riding/mountain bike trails & Pillchuck Glass Studio if you are familiar.
You may sign up for repeated classes and Karla will take the time to explore different resists and dye techniques including: Shibori, tie- dye, batik and limited printing/silk screening. There is an additional fee for silk screening in order for a silk screen to be purchased for you which you get to keep.
Karla also teaches drawing and beginning pottery (wheel/kiln).
